Finding Myself (Flashback)

A three-year-old child was looking out a small window; what she saw was unpleasant -- Erasers were being trained to hunt and kill their prey. She whimpered slightly and looked around -- the room she was in was empty.

Jeb entered a room and saw a small child sitting on the floor looking scared. "Hello, there," he said, sitting down next to her.

She was frightened by the whitecoat that sat next to her. She didn't know what to say, so she just stared at him with wide eyes.

"You don't need to be scared of me," Jeb said softly. "Here, I brought you some sea food, which I know you'll enjoy."

She eyed the food. She was so hungry, but didn't want to take it from the whitecoat, but the smell of it overpowered her will. She grabbed the bowl of fish and started eating it, purring slighty.

Jeb smiled, happy the child took the food. "So, do you have a name?" he asked.

She shrugged. "I don't know; they never told me."

"Well, I can tell you exactly who you are," Jeb said, smiling.

She perked up. "Really? You can really tell me who I am? And my parents, can you tell me about them?"

Jeb chuckled. "I can tell you that, and your name, and anything else you'd like to know."

She looked at Jeb expectantly.

"Your name is Nadia," Jeb said quietly. "Nadia Catalina Sloan, and your parents are Robert and Cynthia Sloan."

"Are they still alive? Can you let me out to go to them?" she asked eagerly.

"Yes, your mother and father are still alive. Unfortunately, I cannot let you out nor can I take you to them," he answered sadly.

Nadia was saddened by the news that she couldn't see her parents. "Does that mean that I'll never see them?"
